Shopping
High street shops are very high profile in Mansfield, as well as many of the surrounding areas. They compare well with the 'out of town' retail parks and they take care to provide a good and friendly local service.
Shopping in Mansfield mixes its 700 year old market traditions with the modern retail environments such as the Four Seasons and Rosemary Street Shopping Centres.
Mansfield's market is one of the largest open air markets in the country, with more than 100 stalls providing the widest range of products.
The market's elegant Victorian appearance is enhanced by the impressive Bentinck Memorial, built as a tribute to the son of the 4th Duke of Portland.
Many of the older buildings on West Gate, the gateway to the marketplace, have benefited from renovation schemes. Walled gardens and tress have been planted while the decorative paving used to provide smart, level areas to pedestrianise Leeming Street, Church Street and West Gate means that shoppers can move about the whole area uninhibited by traffic.
On the other hand, shopping out of town is made more pleasurable by the fact that they usually have far better parking facilities.
Come to Mansfield Woodhouse, Forest Town, Warsop, Rainworth, Blidworth, Ollerton, Edwinstowe, Southwell and Farnsfield and you will find a wealth of, mainly free, parking areas, enabling you to park and then browse around the many key shopping facilities available.
The Shopmobility scheme launched in 1992 by Mansfield District Council and sponsored by local businesses, takes the hassle out of shopping in the town and now has more than 1,000 members. Based at Walkden Street car park, the scheme enables disabled shoppers to borrow, free-of-charge, a battery-operated wheelchair or scooter to do their shopping in and around the town.
